Cleanings & Prevention
Prevention is the key to maintaining a healthy, confident, beautiful smile. A cooperative effort between you, the dentist and our dental staff will aid in the prevention of dental diseases and conditions.
Preventing dental disease has to start at home first. It is important to eat balanced meals, reduce the sugary foods you eat, and correctly use the various dental aids that help control the plaque and bacteria. These dental aids should consist of using a toothbrush twice a day, flossing your teeth, and rinsing your mouth.
However, you also need to visit your dentist twice a year for regular cleanings and checks ups in order to continue the aid of protecting your teeth and smile.
We want to help you have the best smile you can, but it all starts with you!
Dental Exams & Cleanings
When you become a new patient of Acierno Dental we want to provide you with the best service possible. In order to do so, we will conduct a thorough exam, start a periodontal chart and take a few comprehensive x-rays to determine your needs.
After your first exam there will be a standard six-month visit for your regular cleanings to remove plaque, check for cavities and establish if there are any other needs at that time. We will help guide you through the proper steps and requirements to keep your mouth healthy and happy.
Digital X-Rays
Digital x-rays are the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. These images can be easily viewed and enlarged to assist the dentist or dental hygienist in detecting problems easier. This is possible because the x-rays use an electronic sensor, which captures and stores the digital image on to a computer.Early detection and treatment of dental problems will save you time, money, unnecessary discomfort, and most importantly your teeth!Dental x-rays are safe due to a low level of radiation. Although the levels of radiation are considered very low and safe, it is still in our best interest to take the necessary precautions to limit the patient’s exposure to radiation. These precautions include the use of lead aprons for the patients and only taking x-rays when they are truly necessary.
An x-ray will be recommended to you if needed, based on your individual dental health needs.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is an effective mineral in preventing tooth decay and is a common component in dental products to help strengthen your teeth and gums. Alone, fluoride will not prevent tooth decay. You also need to remember to brush at least twice a day, floss regularly, eat balanced meals, reduce sugary snacks, and visit your dentist on a regular basis. We will recommend a home and/or a professional fluoride treatment if we feel you are not getting enough fluoride.
Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves of teeth creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. With sealants, your teeth can be protected from decay for many years, but they do need to be checked for wear and chipping at regular dental visits.Proper home care, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new sealants.
